Welcome to the support site for SpaceTime System's Visual FoxPro (VFP) Utilities.
Each of the following forums contains documentation and a discussion
area relating to a specific application, subsystem, or topic. Free source
code downloads are currently available only for ErrHandler,
SplitCon, and a few miscellaneous applications.
Montage,
a Windows desktop accessory that you can download
free of charge, uses ErrHandler, Commander,
Saver, and a number of generic utilities.
See about purchasing Montage
source code to obtain the latest, fully commented source for these programs,
or contact SpaceTime Systems for
additional information.
Forum Topics
- Commander
- a general-purpose facility for dynamically defining and executing
table-driven procedures and functions. This is an underlying component of
the Saver subsystem, which is used by XFormDBF.
(XFormDBF form configurations are
saved by generating a Commander-based function definition, whose later
execution is used to restore the form's previous state.) Commander is
based on the ErrHandler subsystem, and it also
is an integral part of Montage.
This forum includes help
documentation, a task
list, and old documentation that has
yet to be fully assimilated into this web.
- ErrHandler
- classes and functions for extending VFP native error handling
capabilities. This lightweight foundation can be used to support a
comprehensive, standardized way of capturing and returning
detailed error information from any application, with error reporting,
logging, diagnostics, tracing, and debugging options. The ErrHandler
subsystem underlies Commander, Querier,
Saver, and Montage.
This forum includes help
documentation, general VFP error-handling
references, a task
list, and old documentation that has
yet to be fully assimilated into this web. You
can download the ErrHandler
source code and demo application free of charge.
- Querier
- a metafile-based facility for defining and executing Visual FoxPro
database queries. This is a programming tool based on ErrHandler, similar to
Reporter.
This forum includes a task
list
- Reporter
- a general-purpose facility for defining and
generating canned reports, labels, and table exporting (COPY TO)
operations. Actions are supported to Create, Modify, or Run a canned
report, with optional user-defined arguments. Aside from its optional
Report Destination dialog, the current implementation of Reporter has no
end-user interfaces. It is currently intended as a programming tool,
usable either directly from VFP command level or within a VFP application.
This forum includes a task
list and old documentation that has
yet to be fully assimilated into this web.
- Saver
- a class library, dialog forms, and a demo
application for support of general state-saving
and restoration features. When a form's state or "configuration" is
saved, a Commander-based state-restoration function is generated and stored in
a metafile.
The execution of a such a state restoration function returns an object to its
previous state. An unlimited number of different
configurations can be stored in one or more metafiles. Saver is
a developer-oriented subsystem with some end-user interfaces, used in both XFormDBF and BTCrit (a custom application), and it could be incorporated into any VFP
application. Saver also is an integral component of Montage.
This forum includes preliminary help
documentation, a task
list, and old documentation that has
yet to be fully assimilated into this web.
- SplitCon
- a general-purpose class library and demo form for supporting adjustable split containers and
splitter bars. This facility is used in both Saver and
XFormDBF, and it could be incorporated into any VFP
application.
This forum includes help
documentation, a task
list, and
old documentation that has
yet to be fully assimilated into this web. You
can download the SplitCon source code and demo application free of charge.
- VFPMisc
- the catch-all forum for discussion about VFPUtils web site,
miscellaneous VFP utilities, and Visual FoxPro issues in general. The VFPUtils library includes a number of small, self-contained programs of general utility. For example, see the descriptions of
the assorted utilities that bear on
XFormDBF. This forum covers all of these smaller applications, and
it includes a task list
plus an outline of selected discussion
topics.
This forum also contains an outline
of Marketing Topics related to an ongoing poll
of the VFP community. If you are concerned about the future of
Visual FoxPro and would like to encourage Microsoft to better promote VFP,
please submit your name for inclusion in the list of
supporters. Add your voice to those of more than a thousand others
who have voted, simply by posting a message to this
forum, or on the Fox
Wiki, or just email me. Please
vote!
- XFormDBF
- a general-purpose Saver-based database conversion tool designed for large-scale batch processing jobs.
XFormDBF is a Visual FoxPro application that supports context-sensitive
Help. The XFormDBF Forum includes the latest application
help pages, as well as a live FrontPage-based discussion facility
directly linked to each page of the help system. When you are
connected to the Internet, you can go directly to the related discussion
thread for the current HTML Help page with a single mouse click.
This forum includes a help
documentation, a task
list, and old documentation that has
yet to be fully assimilated into this web.
Other Public IdeaXchg
Forums
In addition to this FoxPro-oriented site, SpaceTime Systems sponsors similarly organized
webs to promote an open exchange of ideas on diverse topics of general interest. The
IdeaXchg Forum covers the features of the IdeaXchg
forum/discussion web architecture, which is built upon the Microsoft FrontPage
Discussion facility.
